Mount Smart 5G Tower

Febuary 2024

Project Information

For this project we were tasked with installing power and fiber for a new 5G cell tower on the BP fuels site. This project involved meticulous planning and execution to ensure the successful integration of telecommunications infrastructure with existing facilities.

Key Features

  • Preparatory Works and Site Management:

The project commenced with the installation of temporary fencing around the work area, followed by precise concrete cutting from the Vector pit to the designated area. This was essential for creating a path for the new conduit installations.

  • Conduit Installation and Cable Routing:

PVC conduit was installed from Vector and Chorus pits to the designated area, laying the groundwork for the fiber and power cabling. Surface conduits of varying sizes were also installed to house fiber cables leading to the equipment cabinet, ensuring a secure and organized routing system.

  • Power Supply and Earth Grid Installation:

A 35mm 4-core cable was laid from the Vector pit to the equipment enclosure to provide three-phase power. The main earth electrode and connecting cable were installed to establish a robust grounding system, complementing the earth grid/mat installed by Premier Engineering.

  • Structural Enhancements:

The project included the construction of concrete footing and blockwork to house electrical conduits securely. These structures were then painted to match the existing environment, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the site.

  • Pull Pits and Access Features:

Installation of various pull pits, both hand-operated and full-access types, facilitated the cable management and future maintenance works, ensuring easy access to the underground cabling and infrastructure.

  • Finalization and Compliance:

The project concluded with the livening and testing of the incoming mains, followed by a detailed documentation process to meet compliance standards. This included the installation of inspection meters and ensuring all new installations adhered to the required electrical and building codes.
